The Comoros Islands (Grande Comore, Mohéli, Anjouan and Mayotte), as described by the first Arab travellers in the 18th Century, reveal heavenly lunar landscapes, making this archipelago a dream destination.

Aligned to the Karthala volcano, more than three hundred cones, craters and peaks pierce the floor of the Grande Comore, while black lava flows down to the sea. Elsewhere, the landscape of the Comoros is a joyful, vivid green, with large coconut plantations on the slopes of volcanoes, villages and garden cities buried under the bougainvillea and hibiscus.
The beauty of this tropical flora is not only visual, it is perfumed too: roads fragrant with ylang-ylang, cloves, cinnamon and vanilla of which the Comoros is one of the world's main producers.

This archipelago boasts one of the biggest lagoons in the world, and the wide coral reef which circles it is the joy of underwater divers in search of tropical fish.  The Aujourd'hui guide to the Comoros, richly illustrated and written, is indispensable to your trip.
